The clock features the Napoleon III style, characterized by the use of materials such as marble and gilded art bronze, as well as the incorporation of classical figures and elaborate ornaments. The art bronze figure may sometimes represent muses from mythology, such as Euterpe, the muse of music.

 Clocks of this type were popular in the 19th century and were often used as centerpieces on fireplaces or tables.
