An imposing two-part secretaire-bookcase in the English Chippendale style, in dark mahogany, probably dating from the 20th century with influences from 18th-century British furniture. The combination of a display cabinet with diamond-patterned glazing bars, a flap-front desk, and drawers with bronze handles gives it rare versatility and presence.
Upper Part — Display Cabinet-Bookcase
- Two glass doors with wooden glazing bars in a geometric pattern (diamond and X) — typical Chippendale
- Arched broken pediment with a central urn/finial and side scrolls
- Interior with 3 adjustable wooden shelves
- Original locks
Middle Part — Flap-Front Desk
- Sloping fall-front lid that opens into a spacious writing surface
- Organized interior with compartments, pigeonholes, and 4 small light-wood drawers
Lower Part — Chest of Drawers
- 3 drawers (2 small + 1 large) with bat-wing style bronze handles
- Serpentine front (bow front) — a detail of high quality
- Cabriole legs with ball-and-claw feet — characteristic of the Queen Anne/Chippendale style
A piece of great visual impact and functionality, ideal for an office, living room, or library. In reasonable condition, with signs of use consistent with its age.
